Summer is here which usually means higher temperatures and higher electric bills. There’s not much we can do about the weather itself but we can manage our climate control better. One good way is with a smart thermostat. Besides all the “regular” functions of a thermostat, it gives you the ability to control it remotely – from virtually anywhere. A simple “tap” of the button on your mobile app does this.
Say you are out of town and notice the temperature in your home (or business) isn’t what you meant to leave it at. Perhaps you left the AC “on” and you are essentially wasting electricity (and money). Conversely, what if it’s too warm and you have pets? No problem…just change it remotely from wherever you are. Better temperature – and sleep better too!
Or perhaps you set the thermostat high intentionally while away but now you are headed home. As you get closer, you can simply lower it so it’s nice and comfortable when you (or a guest) arrive home. You are saving money all this time.
Another big benefit is that you can expand this to other aspects of a “smart home”. For example, if you have motorized shades anywhere in the home, they can be automatically adjusted based on the temperature (or light level or humidity for that matter). Say it’s 1:00pm in the afternoon and the temperature just hit 77 degrees. The shades in the living room are automatically lowered to halfway to help keep it cool. At 6:00pm when the temperature drops to 73 degrees the shades can again go up! 😮
