LiveSmart Technologies Presents:

A Beginner’s Guide To Home Automation A.K.A. The Smart Home

Are you thinking of adding a smart device to your home to simplify your life? Or a system that allows you to control different aspects in your home at your convenience? If yes, then you’re on the path to a home automation solution that will provide you with intelligent and seamless control over your smart devices and increase the value of your home. Converting your house into a smart home allows you to manage home security and control appliances, and it provides valuable assistance in looking after the elderly or disabled.

However, before you jump into the world of home automation, you need a basic understanding of how smart devices are connected and how they are controlled. At LiveSmart Technologies, we specialize in smart homes and automation solutions, and we’re here to educate you about the smart home experience and capabilities. For this, we have put together a beginner’s guide to home automation, a.k.a the smart home.

Know what you need: Firstly, you will need to understand what you want and need. So why not let the professionals explain to you the “art of the possible”? Based on this, you can shop around for smart home solutions.

Do your research: Smart home technology varies between countries, companies, and types of automation. So ensure you do a little browsing on some websites to get a feel for what’s out there. Depending on what you want to achieve with your smart home, you need to look up the solutions available to you. We have put together an excellent white paper to explain home automation and smart home technologies. Please click here to give it a read.

Put together a list: Determine what devices you actually want to run in your home. Formulate a list of “desires” and some questions to help you get home automation right for your house. For example: Do you want to control lighting? How about internal climate? Is security at the top of your list? Who will need access to your home (housekeepers, dog walkers, tradespeople, etc.)? You get the idea.

Determine who will do the installation: Decide if you think you can do it all yourself or would like a professional to take care of it for you. Figure out how much, or how little, you want to be involved in the home automation set-up. If you don’t want to do any or all of the installation, set realistic expectations on costs to have it professionally done because nothing is for free. Even DIY installations tend to come at a price, so a professional set-up is no different.

Think smart: Like most homeowners, you may think that home automation is easy and everything will “just work” out of the box. These systems involve the internet, signals, sometimes batteries, and also installations which can be tricky. Just like doing your own plumbing, sometimes it’s best to get the help of a professional and avoid the hassle!

Do sufficient research: Once they are set up, smart homes are amazing. But, you can do so much with them if you research them right. So be sure you understand what you need and what solutions are available to you.

Start small: When you start, it’s alright to start small, but get a good foundation. Know that home automation is a system that you can add on to and grow over time. For this reason, you need to start smart when you make a purchase.
